I hope everyone is looking forward to the new year with a new president and a new direction for the country as a whole. This last year has been a tumultous one so it is with wide eyed hope that 2009 will be a banner year for all! To begin with I would like to thank everyone's positive and sometimes unrequested tips for this column. I take everything you give me into consideration for the column and I appreciate all the feedback that I get. Thank you!! So lets get to the gossip and happenings and what is forthcoming in the new year. To begin with I had the pleasure of my old tennis gal Marcia's presence on a recent jaunt to Milwaukee from her hometown of Racine. We have not been in contact for awhile which I share all the blame. Since Marcia enjoys the pleasures of the Sappho kind we stopped into Mona's to see what was new. I had the pleasure of seeing Pam the proprietor making sure that everyone was having a good time. We were being amply served by her bar wenches Kim and Jaimee. Pam was nice enough to allow us all to have a complimentary holiday shot. Make sure you stop in to check their many drink specials and the only gay-owned bars that offer a full dinner menu, I will be stopping back for one of their shows on Sunday nites with Three Strikes Productions! I bumped into Brian Reinkober from Naaga fest at Kruz who told me that over 100 delegates of the World Series of Softball which will be held in our fair city in August will be on hand to checkout what we have to offer so let us all make a great impression and put Milwaukee on the map where it belongs. The delegates will be representing 37 U.S. cities as well as Canada. There was some Boston ice fishing going on in M's on one of my shifts. A cute construction worker who is here under contract was being baited by very many anglers who were hoping for a bite, unfortunately no one even got a nibble. Such is life I was at Boom-Room on the 12th to see my co-hort in the printing and bartending world Miss K.V. They were hosting a sing-a-long as well as X-Mas show. Unfortunately I was unable to participate since my good friend Baby Jane Hudson had obtained tickets to see Miss Linda Eder at the Northern Lights Theater. The show was excellent even though Miss Eder did not do any of her signature Broadway tunes now that she is throwing her hat into the country pop group that Jessica Simpson and Jewel most recently joined. After three double 7&7 and a huge shot of Dr's Jane decided to get her money's worth since she did not get to her any Broadway tunes. I guess she was replenishing her signature glassware collection with items from the casino when she promptly dropped them in the middle of the casino floor in front of the cashiers. I was surprised when we were not promptly escorted out with all the cameras that are there. Kruz most recently hosted their Castaway night with the boys in leather doing their best to raise the most money for their respective club. I had the opportunity to go in as my alter ego Chi-Chi Rodriguez after the Thanksgiving Show at M's and was making out with my gal pal Holly of who is the only woman I truly enjoy making out with. Well let me tell you I did receive quite a few looks of which I explained that I was taking my union break from hooker corner on 3rd and North. F%#*k them if they can't take a joke! I do want to let everybody know that I and Velveeta from La Cage will be guest bartending for the Jerry and Serge at Kruz on January 11th so they can take their well appreciated staff for their annual holiday staff party. So come on down and see how we do in this Men's bar. M's is going strong and looking forward to an even better year with Dr. J at the helm. They are going to be open Christmas Eve 8-2 and Christmas Day 6-2. New Year's Eve they will be open from 6-???. Look to see what the special drop will be this year from the roof and NewYear's day wear your favorite p.j.'s and watch the polar bears from noon-??? If you are on the far southside stop in at City Lights on X-Mas eve and fill Sean's stocking with whatever you want. He is very ambidextourous from what I hear so make sure he stays busy. The boys at LaCage are offering free rail cocktails and Beer early on New Year's and make sure you kiss someone new after Midnight. If you are still going by 4 a.m. Don Johnson will be holding court from 4-10. So no matter where you are you will be guaranteed a fresh hangover for the new year. That is all for now so make sure you email me at chichibarista@aol.com if you have any delicious tidbits for me or any special events coming up in the near future. See you next year so keep the liquor flowing and the talk cheap! Love, Chi-Chi November 27, 2007 Column
Greetings Gossip Mongers,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has been on their good behavior with the upcomning holiday season that is upon us. Luckily for me some of you have been a little bad otherwise I would not have anything to write about. So let's get to the dish of what has been happening in Beertown since we last met M's have been creating quite a few events to keep you warm during these bleak months of November. The bar is hosting a grade school for Principal Rose Martin to feed 32 families for Thanksgiving this year with all the trimmings. Thankyou to all the great performers and volunteers especially bar manager Brian for hosting this very deserving endeavor. On November 28th Sara of Riverwest Accordion fame will be hitting the stage lights with her new group the Squeezettes. Always the consumate performer this is not a group to be missed. M's will be hosting a beer bust the same night form 10-12. Also on the roster is the farewell brunch for the HIT bowlers that Sunday. Finally December 1st the Martini Madness Club will be hosting their Holiday Party. Look for even more events to come. La Cage is hosting the HIT bowlers for the opening show at 9 p.m.on Thanksgiving with the hostess of the mostess Miss K.V. so come on out and give our bowlers from out of town a big hello! My boss at Quest and Outbound as well as the other sponsor Kris and Michael hosted the 2008 Miss Gay Wisconsin USA pageant with Miss Mia Dumar taking the top honors and a very respectable Miss Bryanna Banx as first alternate. Miss Alex is back briefly for a sojuorn behind the rails at La Cage so make sure you make a stop to see before she is off again pursuing new endeavors. A quick shot out goes to Miss Brandy Merlot from Rochester Mn who was very ingratiating. On a sad note my wishes and condolences go out Kris whose beloved Grandmother Lucy passed on. On a more tantalizing note I was able to wish Jason a happy 29th birthday who was at La Cage with his other Ambercrombie friends who were celebrating. I exhcanged my razor blade shot for his Patron, not a good thing. He was licking his wounds after a recent breakup. If he ever wants to switch teams let me know. My good friends Peter back from Florida and Chad have moved back into the neighborhood at George Prentice's old place. So good to see you back. You can catch Chadalina at Lucille's and Kincaids. Tell him Chic-Chi sent you. BabyJane and I went to try and see him unfortunately there was no parking to be had. We also stopped in at City Lights Chill where Randy of Mona's and Ballgame fame was slinging the drinks. He had quite the response as to why he no longer works at Mona's. I love my girls Bev and Pam so I will not get into a he said she said. I did meet a very handsome latino man at Chill and he did make me quite warm!!! Thanks for the send off. Another stop I made was to Pumphouse where I learned that Goldi Adams drag mother Miss Janet Ross is now the bar manager working Thusday thru Saturday. They host shows every nite so stop in at 11:00 to take in the show and all the hot tamales at the bar. I even saw an ex-worker of mine that I had not known was family. I should have gotten to know him better when I had the chance! Miss Lizzie Beaurdeoux and Irene Ryan went to Mad-Town to host a wine tasting. After work they stopped in to Shamrock to put down a few and had the opportunity to meet Lief who I hear was very cordial. It was on to Woofs where I hear the men are men and were invited to their spit party whatever that means. I am sure it has to do with some kind of lubrication. Speaking of Goldi, not only is the best painter in the world of drag but she is also now bartending at Woody's on Thursday coctail hour. Just make sure you call him Wes. To the staff at Walker's Pint I hope everyone had a great Scorpio birthday party. I apologize about the show with no one getting back to me and unfortunately I too am not good on a mike. Did not mean to leave you stranded. Best Wishes to all! Other happy birthdays go out to Jake, Black Dahlia, and Miss Charlotte Lorraine hope you all had wonderful ones. My last gossip entry has to go out to my cohort Velveeta and I recently at Kruz. It seems a young man was on his own like a sheep in a pack of wolves. I thought it was a scene from when Jodie Foster was getting gang banged in the Accused. It did not goes as far as the movie but one red devil was in the hunt until the lamb was skirted out before any bloodshed. Always the audience never a participant but so it goes. On that note until we meet again keep the liquor flowing and the talk cheap! - Love Chi-Chi October 23, 2007 Column
Greetings
Gossip Mongers, It is that time again for all the gossip and happenings that are fit to print since the last column so let's get to the happenings in Milwaukee. To begin with I would like to thank everyone for the great turnout for the benefit show for M's dragapalooza that was held on the 27th of Sept. With your generosity and specifically the enormous donation of one of our patrons who donated themselves a $2500.00 check we were able to raise almost $4000.00 for AIDS WALK WISCONSIN. On behalf of Janet and Brian and Lizzie, as well as all the great talent that performed including Velveeta, Gay Bob, Kelly, Max, Ginger, K.V., Miss Charlotte Lorraine, Lady Gia and Christina Chase, Legs, Miss Ruthie and our background girls Trixie and Miss Susie we thankyou for your patronage and generous support. Kudos go out to guest bartender Joel for bringing in our major donator and Chrissy who were behind the bar for this gala event. I was at one of my favorite watering holes, Kruz when I bumped into C.C. and Nick who work there we decided on a impromptu bar hopping that included seeing Huck at BootCamp who I had the pleasure of getting to know a little bit better. From there it was on to Triangle to see James and bartender David. After some dice games and a round of rootbeeer shots courtesy of Paco aka Jesse, I made the mistake of finishing at La Cage with our favorite straight boy Nate who took all our money including Topher Chase and Adam. It made it a rough day at my day job the next day. Speaking of La Cage I no longer work cocktail hours on Tuesdays and Saturdays finding it too difficult with my schedule during the day, but thankfully I will still be upstairs on Saturdays with my co-hort Velveeta slinging drinks for the masses. La Cage had their turnabout show on the 28th of September with the boys trading spots with the performers one of the highlights of which I was unable to attend was Will's debut on the stage and security Ryan's debut as Mina Shades who was such a hit may become a regular cast member on Wednesdays. Look for her birthday party on the 22nd of October at 11:00 p.m.. Greg and Eddie were out and about recently having lunch at Miss Katie's diner who the proprietor Peter Vella just not too long ago celebrated a birthday. The boys were at Fluid taking a break from Harbor Room, where one of my favorite boys behind the bar and out was Puddy. I hope your enjoying your new mattress. If you need to break it in give me a call! There was a celebrity sighting at Harbor Room with Wee-Man of Johnny Knoxville fame enjoying some spirits. I also got a little nugget of dish at Woody's recently with Steve giving a VIP tour of his establishment to a local boy. I do not know exactly what this entailed however I do wonder if he received a prize with his happy meal. Boom-Room remains one of my favorite stops for Fridays after work. You get the choice of enjoying the great show tune videos on the Room side with K.V. and the more cruising side of Boom with Lance. On one of my more recent stops Lance was doing everything to get my goat however I did not let that stop me from having a good time despite his insistent barbs at moi. I did get to met a very handsome boy George aka Gilda who was there to meet Nick from Kruz. Girl if he does not treat you right I will be waiting on the sidelines. M's celebrated their second anniversary October 17th with the tinkling of the ivories of Matt Luther from 8-10. They are now open on Mondays as well kicking off their new Martini Madness Club which will offer different levels with perks depending on your club status. So whether you're a platinum, gold, or silver member check with the bartender for details. Yours truly will be working on Tuesday nights as well as my regular shifts on cocktail hour 4-8 on Wednesdays and Sundays 6-10, so come on down and be a part of the change at M's! Peter of Ric Fest will be starting their next search for Mr. Miss and Ms. this year with a talent/kareoke contest at all the bars with the winners being decided at Frank's Power Plant on Nov. 22nd . Peter has asked me to judge the final night what an honor so check with your local bars for details of when they are hosting this wonderful event that offers scholarships for worthy gay and lesbian youth in our community! Editors note: also look for the ad in this issue. Finally make sure you turnout for HIT 30th anniversary bowl-a-thon over Thanksgiving weekend. The Welcome Show is scheduled for La Cage and the goodbye brunch is scheduled at M's which also happens to be Debi Vance's birthday. Speaking of food and fun Debi and Brian bring it all together for Packer Sundays. Yum you never know what will be on the menu for that day, as well as great drink specials on Mimosa's, Bloody Mary's, and Screwdrivers. So get out your Black Pearls and White Diamonds for November. One last side note congratulations to Baby Jane Hudson who with the help of many of her friends was able to donated $1300.00 to ARCW on behalf of her 50th birthday show. That's all for now so keep the talk cheap and the liquor flowing. If you want to personally contact me I now have a myspace at chichibarista@aol.com or my e-mail. - Loves and Kisses Chi-Chi!
